Obsidian is formed during volcanic eruptions under special conditions.
That is why obsidian is often called volcanic glass, rock glass, lava glass or glass agate.

Due to the different minerals and different composition, the rock obsidian can be divided as follows:
Rainbow obsidian, black obsidian, smoke obsidian, gold obsidian, silver obsidian, mahogany obsidian, snowflake obsidian

Finely distributed water bubbles scatter and separate the light into its spectral colours. This is how brightly banded interference colours appear on the surface of the polished rainbow obsidian.
