The name turquoise means turquoise stone, as the mineral came to Europe from the Middle East at the time of the crusades.
Significant deposits of turquoise can be found in the USA (Arizona), Mexico, Israel, Iran, Afhanistan and China. The most popular turquoise comes from Arizona and China.

Turquoise from Afghanistan has only recently become available on the market. With lots of brown limonite and black manganese oxide, it gives turquoise a completely different appearance.
